About us

Eddy Animation is a production company founded in 2015 that represents  animation film directors for music videos, advertising, game cinematics and fiction.

Directors alternate between personal projects where they explore their directorial vision and visual creativity, and commissioned films, where their experience and their love of innovation are further developed. It’s not a technique or style that defines us, but the synergy between the artistic approach and the story.

Our philosophy is to nurture and encourage our director’s artistry. The idea of constant progression towards a goal defined together drives us forward. In a world saturated with images and communication, we are convinced that the collaboration between a director and their team is as important as the support of their artistic vision. This alignment is the key to our success.

Our goal is to develop original stories, both for fiction and for clients, and this cannot be done without our team of artistic directors, screenwriters, copywriters and graphic authors who are at the heart of the studio.

Since 2015, Eddy Animation has produced music videos for artists like Gorillaz, Ariana Grande and Breakbot, but also Christian Rich (winner of the gold price at Club des DA and the winner at Berlin Music Awards), Anne Muller (Silver Winner at the Shots Awards, Gold Winner at Club des DA and shortlisted at Ciclope) and even M (awarded at the Berlin Music Video Awards festival).

Eddy Animation has become an industry leader in the video game cinematic industry and has collaborated with Ubisoft, Riot Games, Bethesda, PUGB, Nacon, and Lilith to name a few.

We have equally worked with emblematic brands such as Chanel (shortlisted in the Ciclope Festival 2023), Diptyque (Bronze Winner at the Shots Awards 2023), Bentley, Hermès, MAIF, Amnesty International, Red Cross and the Monnaie de Paris.

Monnaie de Paris - Jean-Paul Gaultier - Paris

The collaboration between La Monnaie de Paris and Jean-Paul Gaultier had started with the creation of 12 coins inspired by the city of Marseille. It goes on with a new collection, this time dedicated to the city of Paris. The promotional films for these collections around France are signed by Hugo Ramirez and Eddy.

For this project, the director’s main inspiration was the movie Soy Cuba, which became iconic for it’s long and bold sequence-shots.

Through flight-over effects, we follow the chase of Jean-Paul Gaultier’s iconic ‘Man’ and ‘Woman’, from indoor to outdoor decors and from one historical landmark to the other. Olivier Lescot, animation supervisor at Brunch Studio, succeeds in using 2D animation techniques to give a sense of complete freedom while dealing with a complex subject.

The graphic universe has once again been created by the illustrator Leïla Courtillon, with the input of Jean-Paul Gaultier for the details in clothing and particularly the woman’s corset. The pop-style soundtrack was composed by musician Spock. This campaign is conceived by the agency La Chose.

J'ai fait la Fnac: Nekfeu

Eddy collaborated with the Marcel agency to create the “J’ai fait la Fnac” campaign that focuses on notable celebrities who found inspiration at the French retail chain that specialises in cultural and electronic products. In-house director, Hugo Ramirez, took the helm for all three films applying his unique vision to create lively and varied aesthetics with Brunch Studio bringing the trilogy to life with advanced and refined animation techniques.

Hugo Ramirez developed a rich neon world for the film that celebrates French rapper Nekfeu’s discovery of literature. Ramirez filmed and assembled footage through a series of shoots that were then developed for a team of artists to rotoscope each frame by hand in watercolour. The final result is a striking spectacle of colour that marries a distinctive street style with literature from War & Peace to White Fang.

Alain Bashung - L'Homme à Tête de Chou

Maxime Bruneel

Maxime Bruneel directs a 9-minute musical short film with a famous song by Serge Gainsbourg, Variations sur Marilou, interpreted in 2006 by Alain Bashung.
The lyrics are based on false repetitions. The same sentences regularly come back, slightly modified. Maxime Bruneel built his music video on the same scheme, with a certain number of extended shots to create variations. The unusual length of the song and its slow and repetitive rhythm claim a strong principle of mise-en-scene. Maxime chose to create 74 animated shots and transfered them to an editor as he would normally do for a live-action music video. The main constraint would have been do the whole project without any precise preview of the music video's cut, without any complete raw cut. The music video thus keeps a spontaneous side with unexpected and cyclic transitions in the repetitiveness.
The song rests between reality and fantasy. The music video explores this aspect by showing Marilou's gestures, parallel to the imaginary world of desire, all at once. It thus responds to the very daring worlds of Bashung and Gainsbourg. Maxime Bruneel's challenge was to achieve to show this image without it being shocking or bandied about. We are closer to Courbet's "Origine du monde" than today's pornographic films.
History reminder :
In 2006, Alain Bashung records his version of "L'Homme à la Tête de Chou", the mythical and totally uncharacteristic album recorded in 1976 by Serge Gainsbourg. In this version, recorded for the musical created and directed by choreographer Jean-Claude Gallotta in 2009, Bashung performs, as only he could do it, this 12-song poetic masterpiece, written by the grand Gainsbar. With his inimitable phrasing, his warm and sensual voice, Bashung imposes his silences, draws the contours of poetic and urban images, always surprisingly modern and exact, with this rock and classy elegance that qualifies him.
